Compact Blue and White Shaker Kitchen
The full U-shaped layout balances Diamond Frost upper cabinets and custom blue lower cabinetry, generous storage and uninterrupted pale work surfaces within an efficient footprint.
This compact two-tone kitchen was designed by Towne and Countree, an Edmonton, Alberta-based custom cabinetry and countertop company. Shaker-style doors unify two finish groups: Diamond Frost on the upper cabinetry and a custom blue painted finish on the base and tall cabinetry. Pale, softly veined countertops and a sculptural white backsplash keep the U-shaped room bright.
The design opportunity was to create accessible storage and a clear workflow without adding visual weight. Towne and Countree concentrated full-height storage around the refrigerator, converted two difficult corners with pull-out systems and kept the main work zones close together. Natural Maple Melamine interiors make stored items easy to see, while light-rail moulding and finished 3/4-inch undermount panels conceal the undercabinet lighting. Shaker crown moulding completes the cabinetry at the ceiling. The result is a distinctive, polished kitchen that makes a compact footprint feel organized and easy to use.
The cooking wall groups the range and microwave between Diamond Frost uppers and custom blue base cabinetry in one compact, intuitive station.
Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry in custom Blue turns the refrigerator wall into a tailored storage feature with a seamless, built-in feel.
Centred beneath the window, the sink and matte black faucet become a bright focal point along the custom blue cabinetry run.
Diamond Frost uppers and custom Blue lowers wrap the prep zone in contrast, tied together by brass hardware and softly veined countertops.
Frequently asked questions
How does custom cabinetry maximize a compact kitchen?
Custom cabinetry uses the full available footprint. Here, a full-height pantry, integrated appliance wall and two corner pull-out systems turn difficult areas into accessible everyday storage.
Which cabinet door style and finishes were used?
Both colour groups use Shaker-style doors with a 2.25-inch stile-and-rail detail. The upper cabinetry is finished in Diamond Frost, while the base and tall cabinetry use a custom Blue painted finish.
What countertop, sink and lighting details are visible?
Pale, softly veined countertops wrap the U-shaped work area, and the sink is centred beneath the window with a matte black faucet. Undercabinet lighting is concealed below the Diamond Frost uppers with light-rail moulding and finished undermount panels.
